De Vrolijkheid

De Vrolijkheid is a consistent presence in 25 asylum seekers reception centres in The Netherlands, where we work with kids, teens, youngsters and families. Together with (local) artists we organise co-creative workshops or intensive projects. The result? Beautiful, high quality art.

Missie
De Vrolijkheid investeert met kunst in de ontwikkeling en empowerment van kinderen, jongeren, tieners en hun families in asielzoekerscentra.

Visie
De Vrolijkheid acht de samenleving verantwoordelijk voor het welkom heten van jonge mensen in de asielopvang en geeft zelf het voorbeeld door met elkaar in contact te komen, op gelijkwaardige basis samen te werken en nieuwe verbindingen te leggen. Zo dragen we bij aan de inclusie van jonge azc-bewoners in de Nederlandse samenleving.

The Vrolijkheid always works according to five core values. We use them as a guideline for designing our activities and programmes and use them as evaluation standards. 

Cheerfulness

is our core value. At the Vrolijkheid we focus on creating positive dynamics, carefree moments and uplifting memories.

Safety

is an issue in azc’s. That is why we value organising stable teams of artists and volunteers to create a safe environment where everyone can be at ease.

Trust

in others and in oneself can be challenged during an asylum procedure. Therefore creating trustworthy relationships is a key element in any art project organised by the Vrolijkheid.

Story

represents art at the Vrolijkheid. Telling stories through varying art disciplines is the core of our methodology. 

Resilience

is the ability to be positive in spite of hard circumstances. At the Vrolijkheid we focus on strengthening the resilience of children and young people through art by investing in their talents, ambitions and qualities.

In KunstLab children (4 - 12 years old) can discover their talents and learn new skills under the guidance of professional artists. Series of workshops are organised in a broad range of art disciplines such as music, dance, theatre, visual arts, spoken word, film and photography. Each project of KunstLab concludes with a presentation.

Teenagers (13 - 16 years old) are constantly developing: searching for their own identity, talents and a place in the world. At de Vrolijkheid teenagers research the stories they want to tell and shape these stories with the art disciplines of their choice. 

Together with professional artists de Vrolijkheid organises art projects and workshops with youngsters between the ages of 17 and 23. The youngsters - the Beeld//Formers - are storytellers and the creators of their own stories, resulting in music video’s, podcasts, fashionshows and much more.

Kinderen kunnen niet los gezien worden van het gezin waarin ze opgroeien. Bij de Vrolijkheid werken ouders/verzorgers en kinderen samen binnen kunstprojecten. De Vrolijkheid creëert een plek waar de kracht van families aandacht en ruimte krijgt. Samen met de kunstenaar voeren ouders regie over de inhoud en de activiteiten. Dit zorgt voor mooie verhalen, onvergetelijke momenten en versterkt de positieve dynamiek in gezinnen. 

Familieprojecten van de Vrolijkheid worden mede mogelijk gemaakt door de bijdrage van fondsen en andere partijen.
